Category 1: Vedic Mantra & Sasvara Chanting (Sasvara Pāṭha)

This category includes:
  • Ṛgveda Mantras
  • Yajurveda Mantras
  • Sāmaveda Chanting
  • Atharvaveda Mantras
  • Vedic Śānti Mantras
  • Traditional Vedic chanting styles
Evaluation Focus:
  1. Vedic svara accuracy
  2. Udātta, Anudātta and Svarita precision
  3. Traditional recitational discipline

Bhagavad Gītā, Stotras, Kāvyas, Purāṇic verses, and devotional compositions are not permitted in this category.

Category 2: Classical Sanskrit Śloka Recitation

This category includes recitation from:
  1. Bhagavad Gītā
  2. Rāmāyaṇa
  3. Mahābhārata
  4. Purāṇas
  5. Subhāṣitas
  6. Sanskrit Kāvyas
  7. Classical Sanskrit literature
Evaluation Focus:
  1. Pronunciation
  2. Chandas precision
  3. Memorization
  4. Recitational fluency and rhythm

This category includes:
  • Viṣṇu Sahasranāma
  • Śivamahimna Stotra
  • Bhaja Govindam
  • Saundarya Lahari
  • Traditional Sanskrit Stotras and devotional compositions

  1. Bhāva (devotional expression)
  2. Clarity
  3. Rhythm
  4. Presentation

This category includes recitation from:
  1. Dramatic Sanskrit recitation
  2. Expressive rendering
  3. Thematic Sanskrit narration
  4. Emotionally interpretative recitation

Submission Guidelines
  • Participants must submit a video recording of their recitation
  • Performance duration must be between 2–4 minutes
  • Participants must upload the video to their own:
    • Google Drive, or
    • YouTube account (unlisted)
    • and share the accessible link through email.
  • Traditional Indian attire is compulsory:
    • during home video recording for the preliminary round, and
    • during physical participation at IIT Mandi for the final round
  • The performance must primarily be in Sanskrit
  • Audio/video manipulation, dubbing, lip-syncing, studio editing, artificial enhancement, background music, or voice modification is strictly prohibited
  • The submitted recording must genuinely represent the participant’s own voice and recitation
  • Participants must maintain:
    • proper Sanskrit pronunciation,
    • metrical discipline,
    • rhythmic accuracy,
    • and traditional recitational standards
  • Violation of competition rules may lead to disqualification at any stage

Selection for Stage 2 will be based on the online video submitted in Stage 1. The shortlisted finalists will be informed officially through email.

  • The selected finalists will have to be physically present at IIT Mandi, Himachal Pradesh and compete in the Final Round in-person, which will be held during MBCC 2026
  • Each finalist must register for MBCC 2026 at ₹ 1,500
