M.A. in Music and Musopathy

Program Overview

The Master of Arts (M.A.) in Music and Musopathy at the Indian Knowledge System and Mental Health Applications Centre (IKSMHA), IIT Mandi, is an interdisciplinary postgraduate program that integrates Indian classical music, music cognition, mental health, neuroscience, and therapeutic applications of music.

The program is designed to develop skilled professionals, researchers, educators, and practitioners capable of exploring the therapeutic and cognitive dimensions of music through scientific and traditional Indian knowledge systems. The curriculum combines music, technology, psychology, wellbeing, and healthcare applications to create innovative approaches in Musopathy and mental wellness.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates possessing any of the following qualifications may apply:

  • Bachelor's degree in Music, Performing Arts, Fine Arts, Humanities, Psychology, Cognitive Science, or related disciplines from a recognized university.
  • Traditional music qualifications equivalent to undergraduate degrees.
  • Degrees or certifications from accredited music institutions such as:
    • Kalakshetra Foundation
    • Gandharva Maha Vidyalaya
    • Government Music Colleges
    • Other recognized music institutions with minimum 3 years of formal music education.
  • Applicants with recognized certifications in Indian classical music and performing arts may also be considered.
